‘Silver City with the Golden Sands’

This reproduction was taken the original oil painting of ‘Aberdeen, The Silver City with the Golden Sands’, circa 1928 – from which – is perhaps the finest piece of work by the artist, Greenock-born, Alexander Matheson Mclellan RSW RBA (1872-1957).

In the 1920s, the managers of the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and London Midlands & Scottish (LMS), railway companies linking London and Scotland, decided it would be advantageous to promote Aberdeen as a tourist destination.
